2018 SET TO BECOME A GROWTH YEAR

This is one of the headlines in the Business Media. Various economists are predicting growth for 2018, as global stocks soar to new highs all round.

Investec economist Philip Shaw said, “Investors have woken up in the New Year and looked forward to a firm year for Global Growth with very muted down side risk”.

The MSCI’s Index, of Asia Pacific Shares outside Japan, rose 0.4%, having jumped 1.4% on Tuesday in its best performance since last March. The breadth of the recovery is extraordinary, according to Deutche Bank Macro strategist, Alan Ruskin, noting that of 31 countries covered, only 3 failed to show growth.

Will the strengthening Rand dampen the potential growth of our funds because of our large exposure to offshore dollar funds?

Bianca Botes of Peregrine Treasury Solutions says the dollar is poised to make a comeback against the local currency. The dollar can be seen steadily regaining ground and putting pressure on the local currency.

Friendly greetings

Andre Delport
